From the preparation and priming stages to the application and finishing touches, following these tips will ensure that you achieve a professional-looking result with long-lasting effects. Firstly, thorough preparation is key to a successful paint job. This includes cleaning the walls, repairing any imperfections, and sanding them down for a smooth surface. Once the walls are prepped, be sure to prime them before applying your chosen paint color as this will help the paint adhere better and provide a more even finish. When it’s time to apply the paint, use high-quality brushes or rollers for best results and always start from the top of the wall and work your way down in sections.
In addition to proper application techniques, paying attention to detail during the finishing touches can make all the difference in achieving a professional-looking outcome. History of Coleraine
Coleraine boasts a rich history of human settlement, with the Mount Sandel Mesolithic site dating back to around 5935 BC being among the earliest evidence of human habitation in Ireland.
The origins of the town’s name are recounted in the 9th-century Hagiography Tripartite Life of Saint Patrick. Upon Patrick’s arrival in the area, he was warmly received by the local chieftain, Nadslua, who generously offered him a piece of land near the river Bann to build a church. This locale, covered in ferns that local boys were playfully burning, earned the name Cúil Raithin (‘nook of ferns’), later anglicized as Colrain, Colerain, and Coleraine. Colgan translated it into Latin as Secessus Filicis.
In the early 17th century, during the Plantation of Ulster, Coleraine was one of the urban communities established by the London Companies in County Londonderry. The town’s slightly skewed street pattern and remnants of its defensive ramparts are enduring traces of this early town planning effort.
During the War of the Two Kings (1689–91), Coleraine became a focal point of Protestant resistance against James II’s rule. Despite an attempt by Richard Hamilton’s Irish Army to seize the town, the Protestants successfully repulsed the attack. However, they were later compelled to abandon Coleraine and retreat to Derry. Following the unsuccessful Siege of Derry the same year, Sir Charles Carney and his Jacobite garrison vacated the town upon learning of the advance of Percy Kirke’s Enniskillen forces and the landing of Marshal Schomberg at Carrickfergus. Coleraine remained under Williamite control for the rest of the war.
